About
Welcome to Grandsons Buffet Smithfield, a culinary haven nestled in the heart of Smithfield, NC. If you are in search of a buffet that embodies the essence of Southern comfort food, look no further. This establishment is not just a meal—it's an experience that will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.
Stepping into Grandsons Buffet is like entering a warm embrace. The charming decor, complete with red and white picnic tablecloths, sets a laid-back tone. The atmosphere is punctuated by casual conversations and laughter, as diners savor the diversity of dishes on offer. With a hearty menu designed for lunch, dinner, and even dessert, there's something for everyone at this buffet-style paradise.
The food here is what truly shines. Diners rave about the fried chicken—crispy, juicy, and infused with just the right amount of seasonings. Many customers echo the sentiment of Chad F., who declared it to be some of the best he’s had in ages. The Southern veggies do not just accompany the meal; they steal the spotlight with their vibrant flavors and perfect preparations.
Moreover, the buffet is an ode to Southern heritage. A plethora of dishes—including mac and cheese, barbecue, and fried shrimp—invite you to indulge in rich flavors. If you're in the mood for something sweet, you're in luck! The blueberry cobbler and the famed banana pudding are show-stoppers, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth.
However, be prepared for a bustling atmosphere. As Anna B. points out, the popularity of Grandsons Buffet means it can get crowded, especially during peak hours. The close seating may create a lively ambiance but can also be a tad warm at times. It’s best to visit during 'off hours' if you prefer a more relaxed dining environment.
In conclusion, whether you are a local or just passing through Smithfield, Grandsons Buffet promises an authentic Southern dining experience that will leave a lasting impression. From hearty dishes to a warm environment, this buffet is sure to become a cherished favorite. Grab your friends and family, come hungry, and prepare to feast!
“ Great southern food! The southern veggies were out of this world and some of best Fried Chicken I have had in a long time!!! We will definitely be back the next time we pass through! ”
“ Well, Well, Well, after 2 years of passing this place I thought, well I thought, well why not. After this visit it will probably be another 2 years. Why? Well I gather each time I visit the buffet my arteries gain about 30 points of plaque. Ha! As far as selection? Well, if you like southern food buffets you will like Ole Fred. There are chains yes, but Chason's is better. The food is plentiful and overall you name it they have it. I arrive to buffets when the lots are full. For a sit down restaurant a full lot is an ole crap moment of "we will never get in" for a buffet it is a "Heck Yeah" moment because that means the food is churning and turning, aka fresh. While I was here it was churning and turning FYI. Let's see, I had chicken, Lima's, Taters, Okra, Collards about a pound, and my ole nasty special Liver and Gizzards! Heck, I was so full of Liver and Gizzards I had to totally pass on desert. So, as far as desert I cannot comment but there was Pie! A lot of Pie! So, when I want to cheat again and live like I'm 20 I will be going to see Fred. A refer, but you better be hungry for good ole fried, lard cooked, butter washed, pork filled, gravy laced, grub. This ain't no health store, but hey that's what it is all about! Enjoy ”
“ THIS PLACE IS A GEM! I have said some places are good, even great, but if you are within 5 miles... no, 10 miles... just make it 20 miles and haven't tried Grandsons not only are you missing out on something fabulous but I am also sending prayers your way because I am sad you have not tried the most magical place on earth aside from Disney World. This is a buffet style southern food extravaganza, complete with red and white picnic tablecloths and overalls on each staff member. The tea is sweet, the mac and cheese is baked to a creamy goodness, the barbecue is showered with North Carolina vinegar-y goodness, and ALL the vegetables are well seasoned even with vegetarian options. Oh and don't get me started on the the banana pudding ridden with cookies, bananas and whipped cream. You need to stop by Granddads and get your Soul Food Fix! ”
“ Came here on a whim for a late Saturday lunch and wow are we glad that we did! It reminds me of my grey grandparents southern cooking! Massive buffet with just about anything southern you can think of. You pay before you are seated and your entire party has to be present to be seated. We loved the mac'n cheese, potato salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried shrimp, bbq, and pretty much everything we ate! The blueberry cobbler is to die for!!!! Will definitely come back if we are in the area! ”
“ The food is good, some of the items (BBQ, Fried Sausages, potato salad) are great. We live in the area and used to go often but recently stopped because the restaurant is always crowded. The tables are very close together, which I understand because of the need to accommodate the lines of people usually waiting, but it makes the place crowded and sometimes uncomfortably warm. It's good Southern food, but try to go on 'off hours'. ”
